AHOY Pathway to Employment Course
A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY for those aged 16-18 to get involved with The AHOY Centre… and maybe end up getting a job!
This prgramme teaches a wide range of skills for future careers in construction, boat building and watersports and also includes functional skills and covers job application and interview skills. It's a great opportunity to try new sports, get fit and get into employment or further training.
Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone aged 16 - 18 who is NEET (not currently in education, employment or training) and is interested in water sports, boat building and maintenance.
What will I study?
The course focuses on personal skills development including communication, working as a group and recognising and developing your own personal skills.
You will have the chance to get involved in all the watersports activities we run at The AHOY – sailing, powerboating and rowing – and have the chance to gain nationally recognised certificates in these sports.
The course will also help you prepare for work, further study or an apprenticeship by studying modules which include job application skills and preparing for work.
How will the course be delivered and assessed?
You are required to attend The AHOY Centre for 10 weeks – 15 hours per week on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9.30 – 5.00.
The course is assessed by a mixture of practical and written work – you will take charge of your own learning and development – reflecting on your progress and completing a workbook to evidence your activities.
What can I do after the course?
We will be offering one apprenticeship schemes from November 2015 – in Activity Leadership. Successful course participants will be able to apply for a place on these schemes. If you decide not to continue to our apprenticeship schemes, we can point you towards other options for further study or employment.
