10 years a group of rowers, some who had met through 2 cross-channel challenges, formed the Purple Cutter Partnership. Their boat is stored at AHOY ready for training, leisure, challenge and race purposes. Over the years members have been incredibly generous volunteering their time for AHOY and raising funds for the charity.
A decade later the partnership is as active as ever and 2 members in particular have been busy Fundraising. Rachel Hedley, Chair of AHOY, hosted a wine tasting evening in our beautiful hall. Expert sommelier Wine expert Dinah Longden led guests through a tasting of 5 wines from the countries of Central Europe. There was a wine-related raffle, auction, team quiz and each team was served a platter of food to cleanse the palate between wines. The event raised over £6,000
At the same time AHOY volunteer Ania Macgregor was away in Africa, scaling the heights of Kilimanjaro. After a period of acclimatisation on a lower peak, she conquered the 5,800m mountain in a trip lasting 9 days that included spending a night sleeping in the crater just below the summit. Her valiant efforts have raised £2,500 and her sponsorship page is still open. https://ahoycentre.enthuse.com/pf/ania-macgregor-cd1ec
Meanwhile Rachel has taken up another challenge, cycling cycling from Vietnam to Cambodia, along the Mekong River. You can sponsor her here. https://www.justgiving.com/page/rachel-cycling-to-cambodia
