We have volunteering roles to suit everyone, no matter how much time you have to give and whatever your experience – your support will help transform the lives of those in need.

Current Vacancies

A role suited for someone with experience in marketing and promotions. Helping to promote our charity’s work across all marketing channels.

Availability: Monday to Friday; 1–2 hours per week.

Core tasks: To support and help develop AHOY’s existing marketing activity to promote the impact the charity make on their beneficiaries. Identifying new streams of marketing and producing engaging content to be published across all available marketing channels.

We’re seeking individuals with a passion for fundraising and relationship management to help deliver our on water fundraising events.

Availability: Predominantly weekdays with some weekend events.

Core tasks: To support in the delivery and promotion of our on water challenge events. From liaising with potential participants, assisting the promotional activity to supporting the delivery of the events both on land and on water.

We’re seeking a friendly personable person to man our reception and provide support and general assistance to the operations and Fundraising Team.

Availability: Tuesday to Saturday 10–4pm

Core tasks: Meet greet visitors and beneficiaries, manage inbound calls, administration support.

Want to join us on the water? Coxswains are a key role in our rowing programmes, helping our rowing teams to navigate their way through central London.

Availability: Weekdays afternoons/ evenings and weekends. 

Core tasks: To help deliver on water rowing activites. Being the key person in our Thames waterman cutters to help control teams and navigate them through central London during our Oarsome rowing challenges.

Marketing, Communications and PR

The main purpose of the role: To support and help develop AHOY’s existing marketing activity to help promote the impact the charity makes on their beneficiaries to engage wider audiences with their work to both participate in activities and support through fundraising initiatives.

Hours of need: For discussion – Ideally 1-2 hours a week with ad-hoc support if necessary.

This role would suit someone who:

  • Has some experience in marketing and social media, either through education, work or volunteering.
  • Is familiar with using social media and other online tools to generate interest in a business or project.
  • Is an excellent communicator
  • Having a passion for supporting young people and disabled adults is desirable but not compulsory.

    Fundraising Event Support

    Main purpose of the role: To support in the delivery and enrolment of AHOY’s fundraising activities.

    Hours of need: flexible hours around set dates during the year

    Person specification: This role would suit those that are experienced and qualified within the watersport sindustry, students looking to enhance their skills, local residents and corporates.

    This role would suit someone who:

    • Has excellent customer service skills
    • Is not afraid to get hands on when it comes to support
    • Are a people person
    • Can work as a team
    • Has water based activity experience – desirable but not compulsory.
    • Having a passion for supporting young people and disabled adults is desirable but not compulsory.
    • Lived in experience of the key issues AHOY work to change desirable but not compulsory.

    Job Tasks/ areas of expertise required – to assist with the delivery and engagement of AHOY’s fundraising activities

    • On water events – to support the delivery of AHOY’s on water rowing events, including Coxswaining,Rowing Coach, Safety Boat Officers. You must have relevant experience and qualifications.
    • Land based events – supporting the delivery of land based events including: Handing out medals,supporter engagement, meet and greets,photography
    • Marketing – Working alongside the fundraising team to help promote our activities to engage additional support. Either a hands on or remote advisory opportunity. Becoming an ambassador for our events and sharing your passion for supporting young people with others.
    • Photography – Someone that has a good eye for an impactful photo that showcases the joy and excitement that our events bring to participants. Creating a portfolio of images that can be used for PR to promote and inspire future support.

    Receptionist/Administrator

    Main purpose of the role: General assistance to the Operation and Fundraising Team and project a positive and friendly image to visitors and beneficiaries, either in person or via the telephone.Hours of need: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 10:00 to 15:00 and Saturday 09:30 to 16:30

    Coxswain

    Main purpose of the role: on-water volunteer opportunity to guide and steer our Thames Waterman Cutter Rowing boats and Coastal boat.. The AHOY Centre provides in-house training.

    Hours of need: weekdays afternoons/ evenings and weekends

    • No experience is required, in house training provided
    • Good sense of judgment
    • Confidence, patience
    • Work well under pressure
