Boats Afloat programme

What is The Boats Afloat Programme?

The Boats Afloat project is for students who have difficulties in mainstream education and have been referred to Pupil Referral Units. Groups attend once a week during term time and have the opportunity to try a number of activities that they would normally never have the chance to try. The objective is to show them that there are different ways to learn life skills and to discover a new path to follow.

Over the year, they try a wide variety of activities: rowing, sailing, powerboating, boat maintenance, helming, map reading, mudlarking, archery, gym. They learn about the weather and winds, tides, knot tying, the history of the Thames and its famous landmarks. Participants can gain RYA qualifications in sailing and powerboating.
